To successfully navigate the college recruiting process, start early by researching schools and understanding the process, build a strong athletic and academic resume, and actively communicate with coaches. Highlight your accomplishments through videos and NCSA profiles, and don't hesitate to attend camps and showcases.
1. Start Early and Research:
Freshman Year:
Begin researching colleges, understanding the recruiting timeline, and forming your list of potential schools.
Sophomore Year:
Deepen your research, connect with coaches, and consider participating in camps and showcases.
Junior Year:
Refine your school list, create a highlight video, and build a professional online presence (twitter, field level, hudl, instagram.) COACHES LOOK AT ALL YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA, DON'T POST STUPID CRAP.
Senior Year:
Finalize your school visits, apply early, and make a decision.
2. Build a Strong Resume and Highlight Your Accomplishments:
Athletic Resume:
Compile a comprehensive document showcasing your athletic achievements, statistics, and any awards or honors.
Highlight Video (HIRE ABOVE THE RIM):
Create a professional video highlighting your skills and athletic abilities.
NCSA Profile:
Build a profile on NCSA to showcase your athletic achievements and academic information.
3. Communicate Effectively with Coaches:
Reach Out (HIRE ABOVE THE RIM):
Contact coaches at schools you're interested in through email or phone, introducing yourself and expressing your interest.
Follow Up:
Stay in touch with coaches regularly to maintain interest and build relationships.
Attend Camps and Showcases:
Attend events where you can meet coaches and showcase your skills.
Share Your Schedule:
Provide coaches with your upcoming game and tournament schedule so they can see you play (HIRE ABOVE THE RIM).
4. Stay Organized and Manage Your Time:
Create a System:
Develop a system for tracking your recruiting progress, including communication with coaches, school visits, and applications.
Keep Records (HIRE ABOVE THE RIM):
Maintain records of your academic and athletic accomplishments, as well as your communication with coaches.
5. Be Professional and Respectful:
Professional Email Account: Use a professional email address when communicating with coaches. (JOOSEGETLOOSE@GMAIL.COM) no.
Address Coaches Respectfully: Use proper titles and avoid addressing coaches by their first name unless they specifically encourage it.
-"Yo coach, I want to play ball" absolutely not.
Avoid Mass Emails: Send personalized emails to each coach expressing your interest in their specific program.
6. Consider Seeking Guidance:
Talk to Your High School and Club Coaches: Your coaches can provide valuable insights and guidance on the recruiting process.
Consult with a Recruiting Expert: If needed, consider seeking advice from ABOVE THE RIM MEDIA.
