OVERVIEW
3 Days, 16 hrs, and over 10k miles driven total.... we have finally wrapped up our first trip to College Station for the Texas 7on7 State Championships. We were able to catch some teams from all over the state of Texas like Benbrook, Haskell, and The Woodlands while also covering regulars from our page Palo Duro and Rio Vista.
For my first time experiencing the event and also covering various 7on7 tournaments for the past 4 yrs, I can definitely say this was the most organized and well-run tournament I have ever been to. Staff was friendly and informational while also running a tight ship keeping everything on or around the scheduled time. Overall, 9/10 experience (-1 for the humidity and thunder delay lol)
With a ton of talent from all over the state being in 1 area and us being able to cover 10 games we came across some new names and faces that stood out to us that we definitely need to talk about, as well as some guys we've covered before.

D2-D3 STANDOUTS

D2-D3 NOTES
There were a ton of talented teams and athletes from the D2/D3 Divisions that we were able to cover during both pool and bracket play. Rio Vista HS and Benbrook HS were two teams that stood out and were loaded with talent.
Rio Vista has some guys who for sure need to be on every coach's radar. the trio of Kaiden Scott, Jaleal Allen, and Kaeden Grant is going to be deadly this season, Scotts deep ball accuracy is unmatched finding cousins Jaleal and Kaeden who were constantly burning and out jumping defenders in the endzone all weekend. Even when teams think they have it locked down there was speedy but strong RB Bryson Yadon and quick athletic WR Tate Conley there ready to make a play. Conley made some acrobatic catches to help keep the Eagles offense moving each game with one being a diving catch at the back of the endzone against Kenedy.
I was only able to catch one game for Benbrook but in just 30 mins I could see they had a whole lineup of dawgs at the receiver positions. Notably Waylin Barton and Dorian Johnson stood out a lot, Waylin can get up there making an incredibly difficult grab over 2 defenders for a score. The team was full of speed; Dorian used his explosive speed to get open all game while also showcasing great balance and agility dodging defenders in the open field. Carlos Harris is definitely a name to be remembered, strong off the line and with his top end route running he was constantly making it easy for gunslinger Brennan Barton to find him. Barton also finished with 30+ Tds in the tournament before being knocked out in the semifinal round against Kilgore. Deshawn Deane is a DBs nightmare, big strong frame that he uses to his advantage constantly to bully smaller backs and safeties for easy gains.
Haskell has a diamond in the rough with Jr WR Brian Weng, he has good size standing at 6'1170lbs, but what stands out is his ability to find gaps in defenses to make a play. his route running was on point leading to 2 back-to-back deep Tds that put Haskell up early against a tough Rio Vista squad.

PALO DURO DONS BREAKDOWN
The boys from the Northside made the long trip from Amarillo to College Station but not before making a stop first in the DFW to scrimmage 6A State Champs North Crowley Thursday. The Dons brought down a stacked squad headlined by Jr QB Julian "Deuce" Reese II (also saw reps at safety), Sr ATH UNC commit Darien Lewis, Jr WR Kyron Brown, and Sr DB UNLV commit Vern Blair. Going 2-1 in pool play, PD had a great day against some tough opponents showcasing the work they've been putting in during the offseason. After starting off slow the Dons turned it up making easy work of Azle HS defeating them 33-13 before losing a hard-fought battle against the eventual champs of the tournament The Woodlands HS 14-7. Finishing off a long humid day with an impressive win against Westwood HS 12-7. Sadly, the Dons lost first round to a big and talented 6A Jordan HS squad 26-7. The future is definitely bright for Palo Duro who has a very young but experienced squad heading into the 25-26 season, returning a majority of their starters from last year. Here is a full list of Dons who played this past weekend to keep an eye out for this upcoming season.
